1. Scope and operator

POTE POTE LAND, LLC. (合同会社ぽてぽてランド, a Japanese company, “we” or “us”) operates Ponz, an app for learning languages through conversations and stories with AI characters, and its website. This policy explains the information we handle, why we use it, how it is sent to external services, and your choices.

2. Information we collect

The information collected depends on the features, device, and sign-in method you use.

Account information: identifiers from authentication providers such as Apple and Google, email address, name and profile image when provided, and information needed to maintain your sign-in session. When you use Apple's Hide My Email, we receive the relay email address.
Profile and onboarding information: display name (which may be a nickname), learning and interface languages, birth year or date of birth, gender, how you discovered the app, and device language and region.
Conversation and learning data: your messages, AI replies, selected characters and stories, conversation history, summaries and memories, translations, corrections, rephrasing, saved expressions, course progress, learning time, and streaks.
Usage and purchase information: diamond balances and consumption, usage counts, subscription plans, expiration dates, and purchase identifiers. Apple or Google processes payments; we do not directly collect your payment card number.
Device and connection information: device and operating system, app version, IP address, access times, interaction events, error and crash data, notification tokens, and advertising identifiers when permitted.
Support information: your inquiry, contact details, and account, device, and usage information needed to investigate it.

3. AI and voice processing

To generate conversations, translate and correct text, explain expressions, summarize and remember conversations, and check safety, we send your input and the relevant conversation history, memories, and profile information to external AI services such as Google's Gemini and OpenAI. Your display name and gender are used in character conversations. Summaries and memories derived from conversations are stored with your account and used in later conversations according to the features available to you.

Voice input converts speech to text with microphone and speech-recognition permission. We currently use the device's speech-recognition functionality. Depending on your device and settings, audio may be sent to speech-recognition services such as Apple or Google. When you send the transcribed text from the input field, it is processed like other chat messages.

For character voice playback and other text-to-speech features, the text to be read is sent to voice services such as ElevenLabs or Deepgram. Generated audio may be stored on servers and your device for playback and reuse.

Please do not enter passwords, payment details, or other confidential information about yourself or others that is unnecessary to use these features.

4. How we use information

Authentication, account management, and retaining and syncing conversations and learning data across devices.
AI conversations, learning assistance, voice features, personalized experiences, and continuity between conversations.
Managing free usage, diamonds, and subscriptions; preventing abuse; and operating the service reliably.
Responding to inquiries, investigating problems, checking safety, and improving the service.
Analyzing usage, measuring advertising effectiveness, and sending service announcements and permitted push notifications.
Meeting legal obligations, protecting rights, and resolving disputes.

5. Service providers and sharing

We do not sell personal information. To operate Ponz, we engage the following providers or send information to them as needed for their services. Their processing is also subject to the applicable provider agreements and privacy policies.

We may also share information with your consent, where required or permitted by law to protect people, property, rights, or service security, or as part of a business transfer in accordance with applicable law.

Authentication and payments: Apple and Google. Subscription verification and management: RevenueCat.
AI and voice processing: Google, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Deepgram, and the services described above.
Infrastructure and delivery: services such as Google Cloud, Cloudflare, and Vercel for processing and storing conversation data and delivering generated audio and the website.
Analytics and diagnostics: Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, and Vercel Analytics process usage events, identifiers, device information, and diagnostic data.
Advertising measurement: Meta SDK processes usage events and device information. Tracking on iOS follows your App Tracking Transparency permission.
Operations and support: services such as Slack notify our team of profile and onboarding information, inquiries, and usage context needed to assist you.
Push notifications: Apple and Google notification services process notification tokens and notification content.

6. Retention and deletion

We retain account information, conversation history and memories, saved expressions, and learning progress to provide an ongoing service. Support records, purchase records, access logs, and diagnostics are retained for the periods needed for their purposes, legal obligations, security, and dispute resolution.

Account deletion removes the account and associated data we manage through our deletion process. Information that must be retained for legal, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes, backups, and records held by external providers may not all be removed at the same time. External-provider and backup retention follows their respective settings, agreements, and policies. Contact us below for questions or requests concerning particular records.

7. Your choices and requests

You can change your display name, learning language, and other available settings in the app. You can change microphone, speech-recognition, notification, and advertising-tracking permissions in your device settings. Revoking permission may make the corresponding feature unavailable.

You can delete your account from the account settings in the app's profile page. If an active subscription or another issue prevents you from completing deletion in the app, or if you cannot sign in, contact us below to request deletion. Deleting your account or uninstalling the app does not by itself cancel a store subscription; cancel it separately through the store where you purchased it.

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or withdrawal of consent. We may need to verify your identity. Stopping use of the app does not undo processing that was already lawfully carried out.

8. Security and international processing

We use safeguards such as access controls to help protect information against unauthorized access and disclosure. No internet transmission or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.

External providers may process or store information outside Japan and your country of residence. We manage providers and take necessary safeguards in accordance with applicable law. Authorized staff may review conversations and related information as needed for support, safety checks, and troubleshooting.

9. Children's privacy

Ponz is not intended for children under 13. If you believe we have collected a child's information without parental consent, contact us below so that we can investigate and take appropriate action. See the Terms of Service for eligibility requirements.

10. Changes and contact

When we change this policy, we update the revision date on this page. We communicate significant changes through the app, website, or other appropriate means and obtain consent where required by law.
